There isn't a Biggest Story for Today, yet.

Ad from 1911 Washington Standard Guide

Editorial and Opinion : Patricia S. Ticer has served in the Virginia Senate since 1996
Posted by DigitalDominion on 2011/2/1 0:50:00 (175 reads)

Patsy Ticer serves as chair of the Senate Agriculture, Conservation & Natural Resources Committee.

Menhaden is the only fishery still overseen by the General Assembly. See "Meet menhaden – before this ecologically critical fish vanishes"

In 2011, Sen. Ralph Northam introduced SB765 to shift control of the fishery to the Virginia Marine Resources Commission. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation and Nature Conservancy were among those who spoke in favor of Northam’s bill (SB765) before the Senate Agriculture, Conservation and Natural Resources Committee.

In 2011, Patsy Ticer killed this bill.

Since 1996, Patsy Ticer has accepted donations totaling $3,400 from Omega Protein of Reedville. see www.vpap.org

Save the Bay! Alexandria citizens are urged to tell Patsy Ticer that you oppose this action and wish to see control of the Menahaden fishery transferred to the Virginia Institute of Marine Science and regulated like other fisheries to preserve this important Bay food source!

FAQ and Hints on Using this Website and our Features

Understanding the difference between our "Articles, News & Announcements from Alexandria.Biz" feature and "News & Announcements from the Community."
"News & Announcements from the Community" is intended to be an organized community "blog" which enables all registered users to submit and self approve for posting news and announcements on a variety of topics relevant to daily life in Alexandria, Virginia. That feature is unmoderated, thus registered users have the flexible ability to post news and announcements relative to the topic. Submissions to that category will be "pruned" after a reasonable period of time. We will, upon request, create a new topic category or subcategory for use by any Alexandria, Virginia neighborhood or community based organization so that members of that group may readily find and post news of their organization or neighborhood.

The "Articles, News & Announcements from Alexandria.Biz" feature is a more moderated news area, where all articles are approved by the website moderator or a vetted contributing writer. We welcome providing serious writers the opportunity to publish articles and stories of the history and heritage of Alexandria, Virginia. We also are open to local writers who wish to write regular columns on a variety of topics (we are open to suggestions) relevant to local readers.
